Lady posts on 1/25/2010 10:48:32 PM why does everyone think that the authors read these? sheesh... Anyway, yeah, Rinaldi could probably do with capitalizing on the fantastic libido of her juvenile audiences who would far rather have hormones and hot blood raging than have a book that perhaps has more important issues to deal with than procreation, but thank God for Stephanie Meyer, I guess--at least she gets the concept of appealing to a mass market, regardless of literary value. Then again, Time Enough For Drums was pretty romantic. I think the protagonists even make out in a haystack during the Revolutionary War and she feeds him chicken noodle soup when he's sick. That might appeal to you. Cheers.
Bonnie posts on 1/25/2010 3:55:10 PM so i was reading in the summary of Hang a Thousand Trees with Ribbons and there are a few things i found wrong. First the Wheatley's live in Boston, MA, not in the deep south. Second, they don't have a ranch or farm. in all it was a pretty good book.
Em posts on 8/22/2009 6:33:13 PM Okay, so I just read A Girl In Blue, and enjoyed it immensely... at least until the end. It just kinda drops off without any resolve. Which, I've noticed in a few of Ann Rinaldi's books, happens a lot with the "romantic interest". I must say, that bugs me! She and Captain Sheldon had so much stinking potential!!! Yet, she one little bump in the road and it goes from "I think I love you" to "You turned me in... I'm shunning you!" And after that, even after she gets really sick (the best set up for a reunion ever!), nothing happens! Squat! Zero! Zip! This though, I must say, would be the perfect one to make a movie of. Why you may ask? Because Hollywood always adds more romance! And with this one, maybe it would resolve some unanswered issues with it! I would never say that unless the book actually needed more! With just about any other book, I would say anymore romance would butcher the story line, but this one needs it for the sake of closer! Maybe I'm just turning into a sap, but I truly think it would be my favorite book yet IF the ending felt like an ending, rather than a drop of a cliff. What do you all think?
