Sarene posts on 5/26/2009 5:51:41 PM I did not like this book, I'm sorry. I thought that it was very superficial even though it dealt with some serious issues like abuse it was very unrealistic. I did not like the character Novalee, I think she is just a projection of what the author wanted to be: A skinny, attractive young woman who has a man fall in love with her at first sight, Fourney who the author's dream man. I did not by the fact that she supposedly has low self esteem, she thinks so little of herself and yet I can only recall two instances where she thought anything negative. I legitimately have self esteem issues and I know that you think about it far more often and you attitude is no where near as positive. I found many things about this book corny and found myself getting frustrated by the book and having to stop reading to cool down. I probably would have finished had it not been for the fact that I had to read it for English. I'm sorry that I don't share the same opinion.
cathi posts on 3/31/2006 7:48:43 AM No, not based on a real event. And if you notice in the book she does not get married. The point of the book is that Novalee, who didn't know what an index was, out grew WalMart as she grew as a person. She learned that she did not have to have a man to be worth something. That she was capable of learning and growing and evolving as a person, an individual. That knowledge is power. She also learned that family doesn't always mean that you are blood related. That sometimes family comes from being related through the heart and soul.
marilyn posts on 2/20/2006 3:29:52 PM i have read both of these books and have billie's third book SHOOT THE MOON coming from Amazon. i love them. found WHERE THE HEART IS online at a used book store. i read the synopsis and decided to buy it. it got me hooked on Billie Letts. my daughter then got me the movIe for my BD. the movie was not as good as the book but i was still glad i saw it. THE HONK AND HOLLER OPEN SOON was even better than hEr first book. Billie put together and odd group of people and made me care about every one of them. i highly reccomend this book. LOL talked about it so much my husband is now reading it. i am anxious to get my hands on her last book SHOOT THE MOON.

Alvin Pritchett posts on 1/2/2006 3:55:37 AM I read this book in two days. I could not put it down. As I was reading I keep thinking this would make a great movie and had no Ideal that they were already one made. Now I got to find it and watch the characters come alive.
Crystal posts on 12/15/2005 8:47:33 PM To mike: There's one on Ebay right now that ends in a couple of days, for $9.99 + S&H.
mike posts on 11/25/2005 8:04:38 PM Anyone know where I can get a signed copy of Where the heart is? I appreciate any help.
Lauralee posts on 11/23/2005 5:15:07 PM I thought the book was brilliantly written, the words and the stories flowed so easily together. Each character had a personality and a life that jumped off the page. It was one of very few books that have you reading nonstop afraid to put the book down for fear that the plot will twist in a direction that Billie Letts never intended. A book you want to give as gifts with notes written in the margin. A book that inspires one not just to read more but to believe and to dream and to live bigger than they could have ever imagined.
