I need to read this novel by tomorrow and you just know it ain't happening; so I have decided to leave this comment here, a few words for the ages so that 20 years down the road I'll look for it and laugh because it'll trigger the memory of my teacher's face as i was stabbing him in the ribs. All you kids out there, read ahead or bring an ice pick to school.

You contemptible swines... Your ludicrously reductive statements regarding this novel make me wish that English was not my first language. Furthermore, it is my view that you should spend less time reading 18th century novels and more time studying children's grammar books. Good day.

Watch the BBC drama "North and South". It will answer many of your questions. I hope this helps.

What do true Gaskell-ites think the 12 most important scenes in "Sylvia's Lovers" are? I am curious and contriving a creative assignment for my students.

Has anybody read the book or know a site where I can get a GOOD summary of this book. I have to have it read by the end of this week and I have NO HOPE!!!!!!!!!!!
