Aurora---the female Jerry posts on 2/9/2009 11:03:33 AM The Zoo Story is a wonderful play! I admit that it is really weird, but that is the fun of it. I played Jerry in the performance at our school and in two weeks, we are taking it to competition. BTW: Jerry is NOT a hobo. He has a home-"the sickening roominghouses on the west side of New York City." Jerry struggles throughout the play to make a connection with Peter, but fails in his attempts-"The Story of Jerry and the Dog"-and ultimately gets Peter to assist in his suicide. Great, great play. Love it. :]

Phil posts on 7/28/2005 1:51:00 AM I recently saw this play again on the stage and it struck me how often the themes in it have been copied in the past 45 years: the shopping culture, alienation of men, dehumanization of the elderly and aimlessness among young people. One thing Albee didn't write into the play was the absence of religious faith in the characters. I know that for so many people religion is magic and superstition but it is the answer, real faith does rescue us from the Mommy's escapist shopping trips. It helps us to see beyond Daddy's preoccupations with plumbing. It gave my youth some meaning when other teens were getting into drinking and drugs. Albee didn't attack religious faith in his play. No doubt it was a problem for society in 1960 but it was also the answer to our problems then and still is now.

tunkaf posts on 4/19/2005 11:10:10 AM I need an immediate help with the suspense and tension in the zoo story. how does the playwright give suspense and tension in the play? and in which points of the play? and can we call this play a tragedy? why if or if not? thanks all...
Carl smells like ugly posts on 4/7/2005 2:02:50 PM The zoo story was fun. It had a hobo. The hobo died. They should have uused guns. I like this story. It was kah-razy! I went kah-razy once, but then I spontanesouly combusted. No, wait, that was somebody else. Anyway, Jerry is actually a communist, there are subtle hints throughout the play, like the large hammer and sickle tatooed to his forehead.
