Solène posts on 9/19/2005 6:15:05 AM I believe that the good soldier refers to many people: Edward Ashburham, who is said to be a good soldier, he saved lives and always tries to save the most miserable people. Leonora Ashburnham is also a good soldier, she fights her way through life and her husband's betrayals. Perhaps us readers as well. And perhaps the narrator ?
Michael Lee posts on 1/27/2005 11:10:48 PM I've been plodding my way through The Good Soldier, and I've come to suspect that the title refers not to a character in the book but to the putative reader who sees this tangled narrative to its bitter end.
