dear mrs.weyn, my name is laval and i am in 7th grade and doing a school report on your book that I an reading called, "the bar code tattoo." i was wondering if you could answer a few questions of mine. first of all, what made you think of writing this book? what where you thinking when you where writing this book? how did you come up with the name, mfumbe? and finally, what is your opinion of the theme of this book? i would really apreciate it if you could please answer these qustions before, june 10th. thank you. -laval-

Hi Hannah and Joseph,
First of all, thanks for doing your school projects on me. I hope this information comes in time. I always liked to write and did it just for fun. When I got out of college (I earned a bachelors degree in literature at State U of NY) I worked on various magazines and started writing for them. I also became an editor of other people's work and did a lot of re-writing. After 10 years of this, I decided I wanted to become an author and quit my editing job. I wrote some of my own books and wrote books for series and did whatever project I could get. In 2003 I sold The Bar Code Tattoo, and since then I've only written my own work.
I relate to all my characters especially the main female leads because I use my own emotions and experiences to form thm. my own life is my main tool. Even if I don't have the exact same problems, I remember my feelings when similar things have happened to me. It's the same method actors use when playing a part.

Hey, my name is Hannah Watson. I am in the 10th at Riverside High School in Lake City. In my English class, we are writing a letter to our favorite author. My favorite author is you. I hated to read until I came across your books. I love the Surviving South Side books. I hope you write more Surviving South Side books.
I make connections with almost all your books, especially the Surviving South Side Books. The Surviving South Side books deal with teens going through a lot of problems average teens go through. I have dealt with some of the same problems the characters you write about have. I can relate to most of your books just by being a teen. I liked to read books that I have these connections with.
I have a few questions for you. Do you have connections with the characters? Are the stories about your own life or someone you know? If not, how do you come up with the ideas for them all? Also, what made you want to become an author? Would you please answer these in a response back to me?
I would like to thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to read my letter. I would love to have an autographed picture to hang in my room. I also made an online poster of you for this assignment. I would love to hear back from you.

Hi Girls! To Lina: I like writing for Young Adults because young people tend to like a good story and I'm story oriented myself as oppposed to slower studies of day to day life. Also I think teen and young adulthood is an exciting time of life. I love both futuristic and historic stories and I'm interested in the supernatural. Thanks for doing your report on me and my work. Simon and Schuster did an interview with me that you can find online. It answers a lot of your other questions.
Jess, I'm so happy you are so jazzed on the Bar Code Books. Have you read Bar Code Prophecy which came ot last November? There might be an e-book coming up on the Bar Code but it's still in the works. Thanks for getting your friends into it.

What is your favorite color and favorite type music or song? what are your hobbies? What is your favorite thing to write about? What inspired you to become a writer? How would you describe your writing style? Why did you want to write for young adults? I hope you don't mind all of the questions, I am doing a school project on you.
