I just started reading VH. So far I have read The Black Opal,Daughter of Deceit. Now I'm on The Captive. They are really good books. I'm usually a VC Andrews fan but i really enjoy these books.

I read my first Victoria Holt book in 1983.It was Menfreye in the Morning. It is still my favorite. I always loved history, but VH's books gave me a love of England that I still have to this day. I hope to visit there and visit all the wonderful places she wrote about. I think any of her books would make a geat movie!

I just bought 10 books on EBay of VH's for like a dollar a piece. Great deal! I now have some reading material to keep me busy for a while! I have been on such a reading kick here lately. I have read like 4 of her books in the last month. I ran out of books so I read a Danielle Steele book that I had and although she is good, I couldn't wait for my books to come in. VH is without a doubt my absolute favorite. I've read here recently: Seven for a Secret, Snare of Serpents, for the second time, The King of the Castle and am now starting The Lord of the Far Island.

I had never thought of meeting Victoria Holt before. I think that would be amazing! I bet she lived a very interesting life. I read somewhere that she loved to travel, that's why some many of her books take place in China, Australia, Japan, and Scotland.

Victoria Holt is simply fabulous. Her books are so engaging. I'd have to say my favorites are Pride of the Peacock and The India Fan (which is the first I read of her) I wish she was alive so I could meet her. I bet she is an interesting and terribly romantic woman!

Beth- I'm not quite sure what ALice's motive was, but I think it was because she wanted to be the heir. Also because Caroline was close to discovering her as murderer. I think those are her reasons but I'd have to read the book again to be positive.

Claire, thank you for answering me about Shivering Sands ending. I would have never thought of Alice. What was her motive though? I assume she was trying to protect her mother's position in the house or herself as the heir. Please let me know.

I also loved Mistress of Mellyn - My favorites were The Time of the Hunter's Moon, Mask of the Enchantress, On the Night of the Seventh Moon, Legend of the Seventh Virgin and The Judas Kiss.

Mistress of Mellyn is by far one of VH's best books, in my opinion. I've read it over and over throughout the years. You won't be disappointed!
