Hi Melanie, Thanks for joining the never-ending discussion. We are trying like mad to find a publisher to bring back Sinbad & Me -- not to mention so many other Kin Platt classics. The problem is that everyone wants the manuscript in electronic form, and all the books were done on a typewriter before the dawn of the computer era. We don't even have the original typewritten manuscripts in most cases, so a publisher would have to -- literally! -- take apart a copy of the book(s) and scan each page individually. Not to many (well, none so far) are interested in doing that.

I'm reading our battered copy of Sinbad and Me to 2 of my 7 children this evening. It was my copy when I was a child and has no front or back cover. It can't hold on much longer. The kids told me we needed a new copy. I looked online, and the cheapest book I found was $75.00. Help, a book this great has GOT to be reprinted.

Chris, After four or five years of trying to find a copy of Sinbad and Me for a reasonable price, I finally purchased one last week for just over $20. We had a battered edition with the Charles Geer cover in our bookcase back in the early 70's. I'm reading it again and enjoying it very much. I would buy a new copy if it were self published.

Hi Tim, Thanks for your post. Yes, we have looked into the possibility of self-publishing Sinbad, and many other Kin Platt books ourselves, since we do have the rights. The problem is that few publishers want to publish using the (yellowing!) pages of a book itself -- they want either the whole thing in some word-processing software on-disk, or at least as a freestanding manuscript. We also were looking into publishing SInbad as an audiobook or even an iPad APP, but we are waiting to hear back from the publisher of the latter, who seems in no hurry. Thanks!

Hi All, My comments are similar to everone else. I read the book in 1971 while in the 5th grade; and loved it. Chris is there any chance you can self publish? I can't imagine buying less than 10 copies myself. I presume you own the rights to your father's work? Food for thought.

Thanks, Jason. For some reason I thought it wasn't a Defoe, but it sure makes sense.

It would be wonderful to see Sinbad and Me in any format possible. I would love to share the story with my two sons. The book is unavailable in our library system and buying a used copy is out of the question ($90 and up!)

Hi Jason, and thanks for the reply. I will pass this on to the woman who had the question. Please keep watching this message bard, because I hope to have really cool news in the near future.

Hey - 30-years is a long time, but I believe Captain Billy was killed by the Defoe who designed the Jonah's Jaws. Great memories of a great book!

Hi PB, No, he never shared that revelation with me, but he DID watch hockey, and modern hockey masks started being used widely in the 1960s -- all NHL goalies used them by the early 70s, when the first Hitman book came out. That might be the source of his inspiration.
