Lord Holden, who is relieved to find Lady Helen a beautiful woman, quickly changes his opinion when he catches a whiff of her, but he soon comes to realize that it is all a ruse to get him to cry off from the wedding. The two come to realize that their is no way out of the marriage, and soon Helen does not want to when she realizes that Hethe has been framed and someone else is behind the evil acts against the serfs.
