Secret Star by Nora Roberts

When three famous diamonds, the Stones of Mirtha, are put in the hands of three friends, they each face a challenge in keeping the stones safe. Grace Fontaine, wealthy heiress and last friend with a diamond, is thought to be dead when a body appearing to be hers is found in her home. She isn't dead, though, and is forced to work with Seth Buchannan, a police officer assigned to the case.

They fall in love, but Seth doesn't want to admit his feelings because he doesn't think she feels the same way, and fears that if she does, it won't last. He breaks it off with her because he doesn't want to be hurt, but immediately after she is kidnapped by the man who has been trying to steal the diamonds. Seth knows who he is, and together with her two best friends and their fiances he tries to save her and ultimately win her back.
