When people look at Pack Gallagher, they generally decide it's better to stay out of his way. Pack has done many jobs, a jack of all trades, all with hard labor. Not to mention being a prize bareknuckle fighter made him a rather intemidating figure. So, what in the world would cause the little slip of an ex girl's school teacher, Mara Shannon, to defy him? Her father's will left her in charge of a ranch that has been in her Uncle and Aunt's hands for years, along with her older cousin Cullen - a brute by all standards.
Mara is determined to turn the wasteland into her father's dream of a potatoe farm. Pack is trying to do his best to convince her of the dangers of a woman living alone and that, however well intended, her father was a fool and the soil just couldn't support potatoes. Since his arguments don't seem to sway Mara one way or another, he decides to stay on the ranch to make sure she's alright. One day, while in a heated argument, they decide to go to the priest and marry each other - out of anger. Mara and Pack find themselves saddled with each other along with an uncertain future. Danger lurks around every bend. Most of the ranchhands her cousin Cullen had hired are all criminals hiding out from the law - and even the local Sheriff has his secrets along with dangerous lust for Mara. Can Pack and Mara Shannon carve a future for themselves or will their dreams be broken by one too many secrets. | ||
