The Trouble with Valentine's Day by Rachel Gibson

Kate Hamilton is a former P.I. from Vegas, and unlucky in love. Her last relationship broke up the day she thought they might get engaged. Now that man is marrying someone he has only known for a couple of months. When a career tragedy strikes she packs up her bags and travels to Gospel, where her grandfather owns a grocery, trying to take time to reflect on her life. Along the way she stops at a local ski resort to spend the night as the weather prevents her from going further. Of course it just happens to be Feb. 14, and she decided to go out on a limb and solicits the hottie sitting next to her, who turns her down with vigor.

Rob Sutter no longer skates for the Chinooks. A one night stand, while he was married, led to his being stalked and shot 3 times. This shooting not only ended his career and marriage but has also made him determined to not have one night stands and to never marry again. Rob owns the local sporting good store in Gospel that opened the previous summer.

When Rob and Kate are thrown together by their situation in Gospel things start to get interesting. Kate tries to keep her distance, manly due to her acute embarrassment. But, in the end the two wind up together. But, when Rob wants to be together but not marriage Kate bolts. She is devastated; she thinks that yet again she is being dumped.

There is a secondary love story between Kate's Grandfather and Rob's Mother that adds some light romance to the book.
