Until Angels Close My Eyes by Lurlene McDaniel

When sixteen year old Leah learns she has cancer, her whole world changes. While in the hospital the first time, she befriends Rebekah, a sick Amish girl, and her family. As Leah gets better, she gets a job near the family where she can be with them and also pursue a relationship with Rebekah's brother Ethan.

While Ethan is testing his freedom and openly dating Leah, his family is displeased. When things seem they can't get any worse for Leah and Ethan, Rebekah dies, and Leah once again sees an angel. Ethan and Leah returns to Leah's house, where she learns her newest stepfather, Neil, is gravely ill. Neil is the only one of her mother's husbands Leah has been close to. He even revealed the reason Leah was never allowed to be close to her grandmother and told her the truth about why her father abandoned her. Neil dies, and although Ethan loves her, he leaves Leah to go back to his Amish ways. Leah and her mother become closer, and Leah finds comfort in her guardian angel.
