The Incurable Matchmaker by Mary Balogh

In Regency London, Jack, Marquess of Kendall, brags to his friends that he has never been turned down by a woman. He agrees to a wager that he can persuade any lady of quality that his friends name to sleep with him. One drunken friend mentions his widowed sister-in-law, Diana Ingram, as someone who would not be seduced by Jack because she is unfailingly virtuous. Jack accepts the bet.

Jack and Diana meet when they are both marooned at the same inn on the way to a house party. Jack mistakenly ends up in the Diana's bedroom and they almost make love. But Diana comes to her senses. Even though they are to be at the same house party, she intends to avoid Jack. But Lady Rotherham, an incurable matchmaker, keeps arranging for Jack and Diana to be together.

Jack is opposed to marriage and doesn't believe in love but now he wants Diana for reasons other than the bet. Diana believes that lovemaking only happens after commitment and love but she cannot stop thinking about having sex with Jack. Is Jack going to win his bet?
