Book Review By L. Watson
Christmas Beau by Mary Balogh

Max was engaged to Judith Blakeford. But then she eloped with Andrew Easton. Judith found Max cold and forbidding, while Andrew promised romance. Marriage with Andrew did not turn out happy. He was an unfaithful drunk. Eight years later, Judith, now widowed, returns to London, and meets Max, now the Marquess of Denbigh. Seeing Judith, Max thinks he wants revenge.

Max ensures that he meets Judith as frequently as possible. He charms her children and her sister-in-law, Amy. He gets her to accept his invitation to spend Christmas at his estate. He plans to make Judith fall in love with him, the way he once loved her, and then abandon her, just as she once abandoned him.

But Christmas, the season for love, peace and forgiveness works to weaken Max's desire for vengeance. Max realizes he still loves Judith. Judith must overcome the memory of her fear of Max and her guilt for what she once did to him, because even if she does not want to fall in love with him, she finds she cannot resist her physical attraction to him.
