Always and Forever by Alan Durant

Fox lives in the forest with his friends, Hare, Mole, and Otter. The friends do everything together. One day, Fox decides to go out into the forest alone but doesn't return home. The next morning, Hare, Mole, and Otter set out to look for their friend, Fox. They finally spot Fox in the distance but he doesn't look well. He is lying face down in the snow and doesn't appear to be moving. They soon realize that Fox died. The friends are devastated. They feel as if they will never be able to overcome their sadness and loss for their friend. Things have changed since fox died.They feel as if things will never be the same and therefore they can never be happy again. Fox's friend's don't know how to move forward without him. One day another friend, "Squirrel" stops by to see how everyone is getting along. Soon Squirrel realizes that Hare, Mole, and Otter are not coping well with the loss of their friend. Squirrel begins to share with them a way of coping with their loss in a very real, thoughful and loving manner.
