The Duke's Double by Anita Mills

Joanna Sherwood was once married to Adrian Delacourt, the Duke of Roxbury. They were both very young and completely in love. But Adrian's mother led him to believe that Jo had an affair with his best friend, Gareth. Adrian divorced her. To escape the public humiliation, Jo fled to Italy and married Gareth. After Gareth's death, Jo returns to England with her two sons.

Adrian meets the two boys when they are playing on his estate. The older boy looks exactly like Adrian looked at his age. It's obvious that Jo's oldest son is Adrian's son. Adrian begins to have doubts about the past and wonders whether the stories about Jo and Gareth were true.

Meanwhile, Adrian's mother is trying to persuade him to marry a "proper" bride, but he does not like the woman she has handpicked for him. Jo considers accepting a proposal from another nobleman, even though she realizes she still loves Adrian. Jo and Adrian must face some bitter confrontations as they begin to understand the mistakes they made when they were young and try to discover if they can love each other again.
