Book Review By L. Watson
Breeding Ground by Jaid Black

Commander Alexandria Frazier heads up a crew consisting of 7 human scientists and 4 droids as NASA's first deep-space mission to search for other habitable planets in distant galaxies. Alex signed up for this mission after the death of her husband. Two years pass by for the crew of the Methuselah, but a meteor shower propels them into the future, and they are confronted with an Earth that has been ravaged by nuclear war. It is a “new” world where there are two main groups: a female dominated society, the Takuri and a male dominated society, the Xandi. The Xandi is ruled by an immortal, King Malik Ahmose. The Takuri await the return of their Queen, Alexandria the Great, who according to prophesy, will defeat their enemy.

Alex and her crew must adapt to the “new” Earth but are caught between the two warring factions. Alex, in particular, must face Malik, a dangerous man, a shape shifter with eternal life. The Xandi capture women in order to breed them for children, but Malik wants Alex for himself. When he does capture her, Alex discovers passion with the alpha male. But Alex has a lot to teach the two sides about the war between the sexes. Meanwhile, the Takuri start to believe Alex is their Queen.
