‘Please Don't Come Back from the Moon' is a coming of age story in an area where there is not much reason to grow up. Here the reader will find an account of the town of Maple Rock and the inhabitants. This book spans a period of about 15 years where a group of boys are trying to continue a life without the men in their families – the fathers. They have disappeared over a period of time and the mothers are left in a poverty stricken, emotionally bankrupt town trying to raise their children. It is the tale of Michael Smolij and his struggle to finish high school – the depression and longing in his adolescence and adulthood – his struggle in community college and then night classes – the mall jobs, the lovers, the children and most of all, his friends. | ||
