Book Review By L. Watson
Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin

Rachel, a single lawyer living in Manhattan, has been best friends with Darcy, a flashy publicist, since they were girls in Indiana. After a party, Rachel shares a taxi with Dex, Darcy's fiance, who has been a friend since law school. Rachel is to be the maid of honor at Darcy and Dex's wedding, but Rachel and Dex end up in bed together.

Rachel and Dex agree not to tell Darcy but they continue their affair. Darcy and Rachel are contrasts. Darcy is a successful career driven woman. Rachel is quiet and has always been a good girl. She must face up to her own insecurities about what she wants from life and feeling out of place because she is in her thirties and still unmarried. Rachel feels guilty about the affair with Dex, but also tries to justify her deception as she remembers Darcy's history of stealing boys from Rachel, taking credit for Rachel's ideas and continually making Rachel feel inferior. Rachel knows that this does not excuse her betrayal of her friendship and she is torn between wanting Dex and being a loyal friend to Darcy. As the wedding day grows nearer, Rachel finally tells Dex he must choose. Dex is torn between the two women.
