The Perfect Neighbor by Nora Roberts

Cybil Campbell is a cartoonist who is fed up with being sent on blind dates my well meaning neighbors. She thinks her new neighbor, Preston Quinn, is gorgeous, but he is rude. She is desperate to avoid another date, however, so she pays Preston to go on a date with her. At the end he kisses her, and this starts a long line of events that causes them both to fall in love.

While vistiting Cybil's honorary grandfather, Daniel MacGregor, the couple realize that they were matchmade by him. Cybil doesn't care, but Preston is upset. He confesses to Cybil that he can't give her more than he has because of pain from the past, where his lover was cheating on him with his brother-in-law.

When they go back to New York, Preston finds a pregnancy test in Cybil's groceries and is furious. He thinks she is pregnant but didn't tell him, and this is a problem because his ex was pregnant. The test is really for Cybil's friend, and Cybil is furious. She leaves New York to spend some time with her parents in Maine. Preston realizes he can't live without her and goes to Maine to win her back.
