When librarian Letitia Thornquist inherits her great-uncle's company she is eager to take over as president. Having just broken things off with her an engagement Letty is eager to start a new life for herself.
Joel Blackstone, the CEO of Thornquist Gear, is not pleased with Letty's new career plans. He was personally responsible for making the Thornquist business the succes that it has become, and was in the process of buying the company when the owner died. But Joel wants complete ownership of the company for very personal reasons. He has plans of buying out and liquidating another company. He has had a 15 year grudge against the owner and is not about to allow Letty to get in the way of his revenge. But much to his displeasure, Joel is forced to show Letty the ropes of running the company. He does his best to shield her from his personal plans of vengence, and to maintain his role as the true leader of the corperation. But things become complicated by the mutual attraction between Letty and Joel.
