While the children are hiking in the orchards, picking fruit, cooking, collecting money for the library fund or making up sermons, the Story Girl is always ready with a tale. When a distant cousin dies, leaving the family permission to open the trunk that remained in the family home for many years. While they wait for the opening of the trunk, the Story Girl tells the story of the cousin and her tragic love affair. Each story creates a vivid picture in the minds of the reader.
