Katrine Campbell wants to return to her birthplace in Scotland. She decideds to stay with her Uncle Colin, an employee to the powerful Duke of Argyll. On her first night at her Uncles' house, she discovers a man in her uncles' study. Raith MacLean has decided to help his impoverished clan by fiddling with the Argyll ledgers. On meeting Katrine he ties her up. After Raith leaves, his clansman Lachlan kidnaps her to ransom her. Realizing he is stuck with Katrine, Raith takes her to his home. There Katrine is put to work. Raith and Katrine hate each other. Katrine is a Campbell, a scottish clan that sided with the English in 1745 rising. However, Raith and Katrine come to realize they care deeply for each other. Nevertheless, Katrine's heritige comes between them and Raith sends her back to her uncle. Raith soon realizes that he loves Katrine and desperately needs her.
