Book Review By Allison Herschede
My Sweet Audrina by V.C. Andrews

Audrina is a very confused little girl. She can't keep time straight. She doesn't know the year, her age, or why nobody celebrates birthdays. Her memory is very spotty. Her father makes her sit in a rocking chair that will fill "the holes". Her mother is in her own little world, and her cousin Vera, who everyone considers her sister, is cruel to her, and lies every chance she gets.

One day, Audrina sneaks through the woods and meets a new neighbor, a nice boy named Arden Lowe, who really likes her and wants to be friends. Audrina is forbidden to see him, but she finds ways to meet her only friend. But Arden has a secret. Once he acted like a coward and he will never forgive himself. Audrina has flashbacks of the first Audrina being attacked, and Arden running away. Did he know the first Audrina? How is this possible since the first Audrina was nine years older?

Audrina and Arden grow up and marry, but Audrina has a difficult time with intimacy. Making love with Arden is like torture she must endure, and Arden frustrated with her lack of respose, is unfaithful with Vera. Audrina cares for her little sister Sylvia, who is mentally challenged after her mother died giving birth to her prematurely.

After being in a coma and almost dying from a fall down the stairs, Audrina has a vision of the first Audrina. She demands her father tell her the truth. There never was a first Audrina. She had been raped by a gang of boys on her ninth birthday, and unable to come to terms with it, her father brainwashed her. Reeling from this confession, Audrina decides to leave Arden and her home, but who will take care of Sylvia? How will she survive?
