Molly Lake by Samuel Endicott

Bilingual Molly Lake is a fifteen year old American colonial whose French Canadian mother is kidnapped from their Schenectedy cabin by enemy raiders. The raiders work for the evil Intendant Bigot who is embezzling millions from King Louis XV. Overhearing them planning to take her mother to Quebec, Molly travels to New York City (1759) and joins a frigate provisioning there that will sail for Quebec to support General Wolfe's English army.
Molly's ship captures a French warship and the infamous Captain d'Alquier. Captain d'Alquier's assignment is to assassinate the intendant. Captain d'Alquier escapes from Molly's frigate and makes his way to Bigot's mansion (the location of the imprisoned mother) just ahead of the British Army. A triangle develops involving the good Canadians versus the corrupt Canadians versus the British Army and becomes a three month standoff.
General Wolfe sends Molly into Quebec as a spy, but her mission goes awry when she falls in love with Bigot's nephew, Jean-Luc. Even though he has thwarted the assassin, captured Molly spying, and imprisoned Jean-Luc for refusing to join his syndicate, Bigot realizes the Parisian government nevertheless suspects him and he decides to conceal his crimes by burning his records and murdering his captives. Molly must outwit both the assassin and syndicate mastermind.
