Book Review By Tom McInnes
The Yellow Bastard by Frank Miller

Basin City is dark, dangerous and generally nasty sort of place where the women are either prostitutes or table dancers and the men are either vicious, brutal murderers or good-hearted, brutal murderers, according to the storyline.

Hartigan is an exception, though. He's a good cop, a real straight-shooter, about to go on early retirement on account of his bum ticker. His final case is one that's very important to him: saving the fourth victim of a sick, pederast rapist - the son of a senator. The victim in question: 11-year-old Nancy Callahan. After cornering the rapist, Hartigan is severly injured and betrayed by his ex-partner. When he wakes up in hospital, he's been shamed by the police academy and the city, and made to look like a pederast and a murderer. He spends eight years in prison and, when he finally gets out, goes on a search for Nancy. From that point on it's a race against time to see who will reach her first, Hartigan or the murdering rapists.
