Queen Marie of Roumania (1875-1938), a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, was one of the most colourful European monarchs of the 20th century. The Queen Consort of King Ferdinand, she was a prolific author, and during her lifetime she published three volumes of memoirs. A fourth, covering the years between the end of the Great War and 1922, was believed to have been written but assumed to be lost or destroyed.

This is the long-lost manuscript. It describes not only much of the details and intimate trivia of her daily life, but also her participation in the Peace Conference of 1919 when she met politicians including Woodrow Wilson, Hoover, Poincare and Clemenceau.

Movingly she writes of her last meeting with her mother Marie, Dowager Duchess of Coburg, a former Russian Grand Duchess who had lost nearly all of her family at the hands of the Bolsheviks, and also of her informal visits to London and Paris.
