Goddess of the Night by Lynne Ewing

15 year old Vanessa Cleveland appears to be your ordinary teenage girl living in Los Angeles, California, but she is anything but normal. She cannot explain why she turns invisible and has had an unusual moon-shaped amulet since she was a baby. She cannot explain why her best friend Catty Turner, who has the same necklace and can travel through time at will, has suddenly disappeared. Even more, she cannot explain who has been following her for the past few weeks and has been haunting her dreams.
When Serena Killingsworth, a unique girl that recently transferred to Vanessa's high school, tells Vanessa that she knows what happened to Catty, Vanessa agrees to go with her to meet a retired history teacher named Maggie Craven. Maggie, who turns out to be Serena's mentor, tells Vanessa about a group of girls known as the Daughters of the Moon that were sent to Earth to protect the world from the Atrox, the primal source of evil, and it's followers, who seek to destroy the Earth as we know it. She explains that Vanessa is one of these daughters. She is a goddess, a daughter of the moon goddess Selene.
