| Greg Goodman is an ordinary family man, a high school teacher and football coach, and the father of teenage twin girls. When a tragic accident happens on the football field one day, his quiet life begins to come undone. One of his players, Tim, a boy he has mentored, is struck by lightening and his life is at stake. Greg begins to make wreckless choices with his own life. He compromises his marriage, which he never would have dreamed of doing before. His daughters' rebellion only further separates him from his wife.
He seeks comfort (kinship, acceptance, identity?) in an unlikely source...the injured boy's mother. He discovers her to be a drug/alcohol addicted stripper, who left Tim when he was young. They develop a bizarre friendship, having at first only Tim in common. Beginning with the one lightening strike, everything Greg knew or believed about himself, his family, and the world, comes into question, while he tries to steady himself in the storm. It is very interesting to hear such candid, honest inner-most thoughts about marriage and family told from a man's perspective. I found that a very unique and intriguing aspect of this book. | ||
