Book Review By Kristie Crofoot
I am Mordred by Nancy Springer

Merlin prophesies that one day Mordred will kill Arthur. So as a baby Mordred's father, King Arthur, sends him and a bunch of other babies out to sea to die. All the babes die, except for Mordred who is rescued by a kind fisherman. The fisherman and his wife raise Mordred until a strange lady comes riding up and takes Mordred away.

Growing up in the palace where the lady left him, Mordred is shunned by his mother and abused by his brothers. One day his brother (who is actually his half brother and cousin) tells him that he is Arthurs son and is destined to kill him. Mordred is stunned when he hears this and when he finds out that his father tries to kill him.

When Mordred becomes a man he heads to Camelot to bevome a knight. When he meets his father he both hates him and longs to have his father recognize and love him. As Mordred strives to overcome his fate he goes on a quest to save both his and his father's lives. Along the way he meets Morgan Le Fay, who tells him that it is impossible to deny your destiny. She urges him to kill Arthur soon, but Mordred refuses to do so.
