Shooting For Glory by Paul Henderson

A small town Ontario hockey player works hard through his young life to make it to the National Hockey League. The death of his father inspires him to work even harder when he does achieve his goal, and he has a few fairly successful seasons in the late 60's and early '70's with both Detroit and Toronto. Henderson is chosen as part of the 1972 Team Canada that would face the Russian Red Army team in an 8 game exhibition series. Paul would score the 2 most meaningful goals of the series that would make him a part of hockey history.

After the 1972 series, Paul battles the pressures of his newfound notoriety as hero of the Russian series, and the lucrative offer of the (then) newly formed World Hockey Association.
