It is the 1860's and the Ingalls family (Pa, Ma, Mary, Laura and baby Carrie) are living in the Wisconsin woods in a log cabin built by Pa. Laura, the main character, is a lively and precocious child. The reader sees life through Laura's eyes - the hardships, the unpredictable winter weather, wild animals roaming the woods and the familys' struggle for survival. Through it all the Ingalls have the most precious commodity: family love. Pa is a devoted caretaker of his family. He is a hunter and provider. Ma sews, cooks and takes care of the three children. Mary is Laura's best friend and confidant. Laura believes that her baby sister Carrie is the prettiest baby in the world. As night settles in Pa pulls out his fiddle and entertains his family. When a devastating winter storm hits the Big Woods the Ingalls family must band together to make the best out of a bad situation. Will the Ingalls family survive?
Through the adventures of the Ingalls family the reader is taken back to a more humble chapter in American history. | ||
