The Most Evil Women in History by Shelley Klein

Klein's biography of the world's most despicable women who gained their notoriety committing crimes against humanity lists more than a dozen women shooting, stabbing, strangling, poisoning, and maiming their way to infamy. Several of those making the list were reigning monarchs or dictators using their positions to weld incredible power over the underclass or opposition in their countries: Catherine the Great, Tz'u His, Ranavalona I, Agrippina the Younger, Valeria Messalina, and Elena Ceausescu. Others murdered those closest to them, husbands, parents, children, such as Lizzie Borden, Marie Noe, and Audrey Marie Hilley. Then there were those who killers whose crimes were so outrageous and depraved they have been featured prominently in news headlines, the media, and film: Aileen Carol Wuornos “Monster” and recently paroled Canadian three-time murderer Karla Homolka.

The crimes are as shocking today as when they committed them and for no one is that more true than Lizzie Borden. In 1892-93 the Fall River, Massachusetts spinster became a dubious celebrity after dispatching her father and stepmother with a hatchet, being acquitted of the crime, and leading a long life of luxury off of the inheritance. Aileen Carol Wuornos killed seven men while working as a prostitute in the South becoming America's first female serial killer. Wuornos would shoot her victims before stealing their money and valuable possessions, along with the car. The Canadian sex crime killer Karla Homolka assisted her husband in raping and killing three young women including her younger sister Tammy.
