Dancing at the Shoulder of the Bull by Laramee Douglas

Houston police officer John Suarez returns to the life of a ranch hand after accidentally killing a child in a drug bust.

Six months later, Ranita Hunter is awakened by a series of early morning hang-up calls. Alone in the house with her two young daughters, Ranita unsuccessfully tries to reach her husband who is away on business.

A body is found on the golf course behind Ranita's house and when her father learns the deceased is Ranita's husband's boss, he hires John to investigate.

But John is reluctant for two reasons: he's still having nightmares about the shooting, and fifteen years earlier, he lost Ranita, the woman he loved. Reluctant or not, John has no choice when Ranita's stalker grows bolder.
