A Rose for Maggie by Kathleen Korbel

When editor Allison Henley is assigned the task of tracking down elusive writer and recluse L. Wood Dowd she is shocked to discover the actual man behind the popular childrens' books. In actuality, L. Wood Dowd is a carpenter named Joe Burgett, a handsome and gentle man who prefers staying out of the media spotlight. Although Joe is determined to avoid publicity, he invites Allison into his home and the two end up sharing an amazing attraction. When Joe invites Allison on a date she reluctantly agrees to go out with him. After a bruising divorce, Allison no longer believes in love. After her husband walked out on her she's reluctant to trust another man. Allison is determined to build a wonderful life for herself and her six month old daughter Maggie. As Joe and Allison begin a relationship Allison has still not told him about her daughter. When Maggie has a serious health crisis and lands in the hospital Joe finally becomes aware that Allison has a baby who has a serious heart condition and Downs syndrome. Joe is shocked to the core at the news and is unsure as to whether he can handle this harsh reality. Maggie gets real with him and tells him that Maggie will never be "normal" and that caring for her through the years will be difficult and at times overwhelming. Will Maggie and Joe be able to overcome all their obstacles and find true love?
