Book Review By David Fletcher
4th and Fixed by Reggie Rivers

Organized crime figure Michael Gasca and his long-time partner, three hundred and twenty pound Roscoe Evans are using their considerable clout to rig the NFL season and help the San Antonio Stallions reach the Super Bowl. They are charging Jonathan Kinneson, the new team owner of the Stallions $11 million to help rid him of his unwanted and beleaguered head coach, fix the season and playoffs, and secure a berth in the Super Bowl to be held in San Antonio. FBI Agent Steven Oquist has been doggedly pursuing Gasca and his movements for 15 years with little to show for it, in part due to his ineffective boss whom Oquist has derisively nicknamed CC. Trevor Deale out of the University of Oklahoma as a junior is the number one draft-pick of the entire NFL draft and soon-to-be rookie starting quarterback for the Stallions. He is the primary target of Gasca's game fixing scheme. Trevor is looking for a new house with his girlfriend Vanessa Patterson after having already bought one for his mother and sister back in his tiny hometown of Lamesa, TX.

Veteran running back Caleb Alexander, a freewheeling player known for his lavish spending habits and fast lifestyle, is another pawn in Gascas plan. Deale learns of the part Alexander has played in an early loss orchestrated by the two hoods out of Philly. The criminals are constantly betting one another over trivial things, but they are dead serious in their actions with Kinneson, Alexander, and Deale creating elaborate scenarios in order to manipulate all three men. As the season progresses the Stallions keep winning and Gascas plot gets more elaborate each week. However, once Deale and his family become imperiled, the mobsters realize they may have underestimated the young quarterback.
