Mary is off at school and, as usual, money is tight for the Ingalls family. To help out, Laura leaves to teach school in a drafty shanty school house twelve miles from her home. Laura feels miserable and homesick, many of the students are taller than she and when she is not teaching she boards all week with a spiteful woman.
Things aren't all bad, though. Rain or shine Almanzo Wilder arrives to take young Laura, not yet sixteen years old, home to her loving family for the weekend. Laura and Almanzo's friendship blossoms into a tender love. The eigth book in the Little House series ends with the two young love birds engaged and then married. | ||
