Northern Magic by Janet Dailey

Shannon Hayes is a 23 year old woman who arrives in Alaska to reunite with her fiance, Rick. When Rick fails to pick Shannon up at the airport, Shannon heads to his apartment where she is greeted by a stranger when she rings Rick's doorbell. After talking to the landlord Shannon discovers that the landlord rented out Rick's apartment after he failed to pay his rent and went missing for two weeks. Although the landlord tries to convince Shannon that Rick relocated to another apartment, Shannon finds it strange that Rick would've left personal belongings behind, including a framed picture of herself. Shannon then decides to head to Steele Air, Rick's employer. When Shannon arrives at Steele Air she meets with the Cody Steele, the ruggedly handsome owner of the charter airline service. After showing Cody Rick's picture, Cody acknowledges that Rick did apply for a job at his airline company as a pilot but he was turned down due to a lack of experience flying in Alaska. Shannon is floored by the news. Why did Rick tell her he was employed by Steele Air? Why did Rick send her a ticket to fly to Alaska? Why didn't Rick tell her if he was moving? Devastated and alone, Shannon turns to Cody for assistance. As Shannon asks Cody for his assistance in finding Rick she finds herself getting closer to the gorgeous man. And when Cody and Shannon head out into the Alaskan wilderness in search of Rick and the chartered plane he piloted, will Shannon be able to resist the raging passion she feels for Cody?
