Sunny Chandler's Return by Sandra Brown

When Sunny Chandler returns to the small southern town of Latham Green, Louisiana to attend her best friend Frannie's wedding, her return causes a stir amongst the townsfolk. It seems that no one can forget that three years ago Sunny walked out of her own wedding to local boy Don Jenkins. Since Sunny never explained why she jilted Don at the altar the townsfolk have had three years to gossip and come up with their own lurid explanations.

When Ty Beaumont lays eyes on Sunny Chandler at the bridegroom's pre-wedding party, he can't take his eyes off the gorgeous woman. Ty makes a bet with his friend George that by week's end he'll have Sunny Chandler in his bed. Whoever wins the bet will give the other a case of Wild Turkey. Bold as brass, Ty introduces himself to Sunny and tells her all about his outrageous bet. Although Sunny is wildly attracted to Ty, she has no intention of having a whirlwind affair during her one week in town. When Sunny is forced to call 911 after hearing noises of an intruder late at night, she is shocked when Sheriff Ty Beaumont answers the call. Much to Ty's delight, he discovers that Sunny's intruders are nothing more than a family of racoons. Wherever Sunny goes in Latham Green she is subjected to rude gossip and innuendo. Sunny slowly begins to thaw towards Ty as they drink Cherry Cokes in an old fashioned diner in town. Although Ty probes her about her aborted wedding, Sunny refuses to give any details.

At Frannie's wedding Don Jenkins seeks Sunny out and tells her that despite being married he is still hopelessly in love with her. Don apologizes for ruining all their chances of being together. Distraught by the painful memories Don dredged up, Sunny tears out of the reception, only to be followed by Ty's squad car. Although Sunny locks herself into her house Ty kicks down the door and demands to know what Don did to make her so upset. Ty wears down all of Sunny's defenses and she finally summons the courage to tell Ty about her past with Don. It seems that Don was having an affair with a woman named Gretchen and Sunny caught them in bed the night before the wedding. Sunny realizes that Don no longer has any power over her and she makes love to Ty. The next morning Sunny is feeling on top of the world until she opens her front door and finds a case of Wild Turkey on the doorstep. Sunny lashes out at Ty and accuses him of calling his friend and bragging about bedding her.
