Book Review By Rupanjana Mukerji
Just as Long as We're Together by Judy Blume

Just as Long as We're Together is about Stephanie, her best friend Rachel, and the new girl on the block, Alson, and how they tackle their first year of Junor High.

Stephanie is the main character. She's an average, slghtly plump girl who has an endearingly optimistic approach to life. Between day-dreaming about the 9th grader "hunk", baby-sitting her 10-year old brother, and trying to keep her friends happy, Stephanie doesn't realise what's happening to her family until it's too late.

Rachel is the child prodigy. Rachel is good at everything, and she's pretty too. She and Stephanie have been friends forever but the strain starts to show when they get put in different homerooms, Rachel goes into advanced classes, and Stephanie spends more and more time with Alison.

Alison, the adopted daughter of TV star Gena Farrell is tiny and popular. But when her adoptive mom gets pregnant, Alison is terrified that there will no longer be a place for her in the family.

The three girls tackle these problems and more as they make their way through 7th grade.

As a story of friendship and of growing-up, it's well-written and fun to read. It's not really meant for adults though.
