Book Review By Jacqueline West
Rilla of Ingleside by L.M. Montgomery

Rilla, the youngest of Anne and Gilbert Blythe's six children, comes of age in the final installation in the "Anne of Green Gables" series. World War I is just beginning, and even the quiet town of Glen St. Mary on Prince Edward Island, Canada, is deeply affected. The older Blythe boys, Jem and Walter, enlist and leave for the battleground, followed by the youngest Blythe son, Shirley; Rilla's budding romance with her old friend Kenneth Ford is threatened when he enlists as well. Daily life at pastoral Ingleside revolves around news of the war while Anne, Gilbert, Rilla, and the indomitable housekeeper, Susan, rejoice over British/Canadian victories and tremble over the lists of casualties.
