Book Review By Pam Bach
Map of Bones by James Rollins

The story begins with a group of intruders in monk robes interupting a midnight mass service in Germany, killing the worshippers and clergy, and stealing an ancient relic from the church - the Bones of the Three Magi. With this treasure, this group hopes to discover a vast power source which will allow them to control the world. Investigators from Rome and the Vatican join a team of government agents from the US to stop these terrorists. They must follow the same clues, left by a secret society centuries ago, to stop the terrorists from obtaining world domination. These clues lead them to the Seven Wonders of the ancient world and to the discovery of treasures long buried. Along the way, there are constant confrontations between the two groups, with many close escapes from certain death.

The US/Italian team is composed of two men and a woman, all scientists as well as government agents. The Italian members are a Catholic Monsignor archeologist/Vatican spy and his niece, a Roman art theft investigator. The group forms a strong bond with one another as they work together to solve ancient riddles. The enemy are members of an old secret fraternity of alchemists named The Dragon Court.
