Book Review By Jon Agee
NOMAD/Y: The Moon Base Project by Noah Bond

Rae and Ken are senior investigators with the General Accounting Office. In 1993, during a routine investigation of the Apollo Program, Ken discovers that four Marine Astronauts had left the program on the same day, never to be seen again. Records indicate they were sent to a clandestine base in Southeast Asia called NOMAD/Y. Then Ken sees a film taken on the Moon which briefly shows the first letter of an Astronaut's identification patch to be X. The only Astronaut whose name began with X was one of the missing Marines. Then Rae observes that NOMAD/Y is an acronym for MONDAY, which used to mean Moon Day. Further investigation convinces them that the missing Marines went to the Moon and remained there after the last lunar mission. Rae and Ken arrange to meet General Dmitri Shavinsky of the Russian manned space program. He not only shares their suspicion, but advises them that they have been receiving signals from the Moon continuously for twenty years.

They arrange to meet with the President, who authorizes a rescue mission. A Proton V will launch the last Apollo mission from the Baikonur Cosmodrome with Astronaut Georgia and Cosmonaut Piotr aboard. Georgia takes the lunar lander to the Moon alone to save room for the surviving Marines. When she arrives, there is no one at the Moon Base. Before she leaves, she mysteriously loses consciousness for several minutes. Returning to the lunar lander, she finds it has been moved. She is afraid to return to it, but has no other option. Inside she finds the missing Marines, unconscious.

Upon her return to Earth, the debriefing confirms that there has been alien intervention on the Moon. Then Georgia discovers she is pregnant. The person she believes to be the father is a Hero of Chernobyl, unable to reproduce.
