Book Review By Ann Gaines
The Lunch-Box Chronicles by Marion Winik

Marion Winik, a commentator on NPR's All Things Considered, has written a book about her life as a single parent. In the mid 1980s, Winik married Tony Heubach, a gay junkie ice skater, with whom she would have two children. Heubach, who had HIV when Winik met him, developed AIDs when their boys were still very small.

This book deals only in small part with Winik's marriage or Heubach's death. It's really a book about her adventures raising two small boys on her own. In it, she does talk about the sorrows involved in losing a spouse and a father, what she does when the boys fight, what happens when one boy shows an aptitude for golf, and how they win the battle over head lice.
