Anna Reardon is an illiterate teen-aged orphan with a 13 year-old brother, James who were both raised in a brothel. Unable to make a living in Boston, she agrees to become a mail-order bride. Unfortunately, in order to do so, she must fabricate nearly everything about herself. James helps her to do this by writing to Karl Lindstrom, a handsome Swedish immigrant with a farm in Minnesota.
Karl is kind, hard-working and very moral. When he meets "his Anna", he's shocked to see she has none of the skills he thought she would have and is much younger too; in addition, she has brought along her younger brother. Karl and Anna are married and begin their struggles. Anna must regain Karl's trust, which is a struggle, as lie after lie emerges about Anna and her past. | ||
