Lucy Fellowes is a widow with two young sons. Her husband, Ned, was killed in a car accident rushing to the hospital where Lucy was giving birth to their youngest son.
Four years later, while over the majority of her grief, she is offered a dream house on her wealthy, socialite, parents-in-law's estate. Lucy doesn't particularly get along with her mother-in-law, Rose, but the offer of free accomodation and schooling for her boys is too good to refuse, especially when her finances are strapped. Lucy has another reason for moving to the country - she's developed a crush on a married man, Charlie Fletcher, who she discovers lives in a town nearby. She gets to meet him at a party and the two begin an unconsumated love affair. She keeps it a secret from everyone, making excuses for her absences. Lucy, while doing church duties, meets Charlie's wife, who knows of his affairs and explains his actions on the fact that he accidently hit his four year old son with his car, resulting in his death. Charlie seems to handle the grief by having affairs. Lucy stops the affair and goes home earlier than planned to discover her house on fire. | ||
