| L.M. Montgomery, the famous Canadian writer, starts a journal in her childhood, determined to write about interesting things, rather than just the weather. This, the fist of five volumes of her journals, details her life at school and her eventual success as a writer. As a child, Montgomery is raised by her grandparents in Prince Edward Island.
When still a child, she visits her father in the Prairies, where he has settled with a new wife. The daughter and new wife find it difficult to co-exist, and Montgomery longs for home. She returns to Prince Edward Island, where she helps her grandparents while pursuing writing in the little spare time she has. She helps in the post office her grandfather runs and even travels to Halifax to work on the newspaper. Prince Edward keeps drawing her home, however. For some time, she works as a teacher. She finds love in Herman Leard, but class differences keep them apart. Montgomery rejects a few proposals and continues to live with her grandparents. Eventually, her fist book, Anne of Green Gables, is published by an American publishing house, after many rejections. Once she is a successful writer, Montgomery chooses to marry a Presbyterian minister. However, the couple must wait until Montgomery's grandmother no longer needs her. | ||
