Betty lives in the family's hometown and has a beauty salon business, Lovejoy 2. Emily lives in Atlanta and works as a researcher. Annie Ruth is the fragile sister who has suffered a nervous breakdown and works as a television newscaster. The girls' father, Ernest, has spent most of his life supporting Mudear and working in the chalk mines. Mudear was an opiniated, bossy, sassy woman who ruled her roost with an iron fist and a razor sharp tongue.
