Cinnamon Kiss by Walter Mosley

Easy Rawlins needs a lot of money to pay for medical care that will save his daughter's life. He even considers robbing an armored car with his bestfriend, Mouse, but he is offered a lucrative job. A wealthy eccentric and his mysterious "Girl Friday" hire him to find Cinnamon Cargill. She is the link to the man who alledgedly stole some highly important papers which the owner wants returned. In San Francisco, Easy finds the suspected thief too late: dead.

His search and discovery of Ms. Cargill leads him to another dead man. Cinnamon is a killer.
He must evade a hired assassin, a betrayal from his employer's secretary, and a mental breakdown from the stress from worrying over his daughter's health. His investigation reveals dirty money and filthy secrets kept since WWII.
